Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water)
The standard for laboratory peptide research. Bacteriostatic water is 0.9% benzyl alcohol-preserved sterile water, specifically formulated to inhibit the growth of most common bacteria, allowing a single vial to be accessed multiple times without compromising sterility. It is the most widely used solvent in peptide research settings and the industry standard for preparing lyophilized peptide compounds for laboratory use.
Available in 10ml and 30ml multi-use vials. Each vial is sealed, sterile, and USP-grade.
For laboratory research purposes only. Not for human consumption. Research use only.

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, preventing contamination after the vial has been accessed. This makes it a multi-use solution, unlike standard sterile water which must be discarded after a single use due to contamination risk.

Standard sterile water contains no preservative. Once the septum is punctured, bacterial contamination becomes a risk with every subsequent access. Bacteriostatic water’s 0.9% benzyl alcohol content actively inhibits bacterial proliferation, making it safe for repeated access over an extended period. For any research application requiring multiple preparations from a single vial, BAC water is the appropriate choice.

Lyophilized peptides require a solvent to transition from powder form into a solution suitable for research use. Bacteriostatic water is the industry standard solvent for this application for two reasons — its sterility ensures no introduction of contaminants into the prepared solution, and its preservative content means researchers can prepare multiple research aliquots from a single peptide vial over time without compromising the integrity of the remaining solution.

The 10ml vial is appropriate for smaller scale research applications or single compound preparations. The 30ml vial is better suited for laboratories working with multiple compounds simultaneously or conducting extended research protocols requiring repeated preparation over time. Both vials maintain the same USP-grade sterility and 0.9% benzyl alcohol concentration.

Once the septum has been punctured, bacteriostatic water maintains its preservative efficacy and sterility for approximately 28 days under refrigerated conditions. Researchers should date the vial upon first access and discard after this window to ensure research integrity.

Unopened vials should be stored at room temperature away from direct light and heat. Once accessed, refrigerated storage is recommended to maintain preservative efficacy and sterility for the full 28 day window. Do not freeze — freezing can compromise vial integrity and sterility.

Bacteriostatic water is compatible with the vast majority of research peptides. It is the most widely cited solvent in published peptide research literature. Researchers should cross-reference compound-specific solubility data and published research protocols to confirm compatibility for their specific application.

Yes. The 0.9% benzyl alcohol formulation is the same standard used across pharmaceutical and clinical research applications globally. It is a USP-grade product held to the same sterility and preservative standards.
